Ny State has announced that 5 organizations happen to be authorized to start marijuana dispensaries in The Big Apple.

“Today’s announcement shows a major milestone in the implementation of Ny State’s Medical Cannabis Program and keeps us on course to get the program ready to go within Eighteen months of passage of the Compassionate Care Act,” explained New York State Health Commissioner Howard Zucker.

“I am proud that we are on target to provide certified patients with access to medical marijuana more speedily than any other state in the nation.”

One of the shops will be at 212 East 14th Street, leased by the organization Columbia Care NY LLC, and is scheduled to open Jan 2016.

Bloomfield Industries, Inc., will run yet another dispensary from an uptown Manhattan location not declared yet.

2 other shops will open in the Queens and The Bronx, while a manufacturing facility may also open in Queens.

All five businesses, Columbia Care NY LLC, Bloomfield Industries, Inc., Empire State Health Solutions, Etain, LLC, and PharmaCannn LLC, could have 1 manufacturing facility and 4 dispensaries each, spread across New York State.

“As New York starts this brand new chapter of individual health care, we pledge to provide safe, steady treatments by developing probably the most secure facilities, offering the finest quality products as well as bringing the most knowledgeable as well as professional staff in the market to New York,” Columbia Care wrote inside a statement on it’s web site.

Twenty-three states in the U.S. and the District of Columbia have passed medicinal marijuana laws, but not all gather sales tax. In certain states, the programs haven’t yet completely launch, or estimates of tax revenue have yet to be created.

Ny had become the 23rd state to pass through a medical cannabis law in July of last year.

Amongst the restrictions are that the state will at first enable just Twenty shops throughout the state, run by 5 organizations, the drug cannot be smoked, and only 10 conditions will be eligible for a medical use of marijuana.

The law also prohibits shops from being located within 1,000 feet of a church or school.
